PROTECTION OF ALLAH (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa)

PROTECTION OF ALLAH (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa)

Shaikh Ibne Rajab Hambali

In His Book, Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa) has informed us that He is the Protector of the believers and that He protects the righteous; subsumed by this is the fact that He safeguards what is good for them both in this life and the Aakhirah (Hereafter), and that He will not abandon them to another. Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa) says:

“Allah is the Protector of those who believe. He brings them out of the depths of darkness into the light…..” (Al-Baqarah 2:257)

“That is because Allah is the supporter / protector of those who believe. As for the disbelievers, there is no supporter / protector for them.” (Muhammad 47:11)

“And whoever places his trust in Allah, He is sufficient for him. Surely Allah is to accomplish His purpose. (At-Talaaq 65:3)

“Is Allah not sufficient for (the protection of) His slave? (Az-Zumar 39:36)

Whoever establishes the rights of Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa), He will safeguard everything that will benefit him in this life and the next. Whoever wants Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa) to preserve him and tend to all of his affairs, let him first tend to Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa)’s rights on him. Whoever does not wish to be afflicted by anything he dislikes, let him not undertake what Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa) dislikes.

One of the Pious Ulamaa (Scholars) would go to gathering (group of people) after gathering (group of other people) saying: “Whoever wants Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa) to preserve his well-being, let him have Taqwaa (Fear) of Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa).”

Another would say to anyone who asked him for advice:“Be with Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa), Mighty and Magnificent, in exactly the same way that you want Him to be with you.”

Another is reported as saying that Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa), Mighty and Magnificent, says: “By My might and magnificence! I do not look at a heart that I know loves to obey Me, and does so diligently, except that I will undertake to protect his circumstances and keep him firm.”

One of the earlier scriptures mentions that Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa), the Mighty and the Magnificent, says: “Son of Aadam (Adam)! Will you not tell me what gives you cause to laugh? Son of Aadam! Have Taqwaa of Me and then sleep wherever you wish!”

What this means is that when you establish due Taqwaa of Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa) you need not worry any more about those things that will be good for you. Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa) knows them better than you and He will direct them to you in the best of ways.

The Hadeeth of Hadhrat Jaabir has the Prophet (SallAllaho Alaihe WaSallam) saying: “Whoever wants to know the standing he has with Allah, let him look to himself and see the standing that Allah has with him. Allah grants a person the same standing as Allah has with that person.” (Abu Yaʿlaa, Ṭabaraani)

This proves that Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa)’s concern with His servant and His safeguarding him is commensurate to the servant’s concern with the rights of Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa), establishing them, tending to His limits and safeguarding them. Whoever’s goal is Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa)’s good-pleasure, seeking to draw close to Him, knowing Him, loving Him, and serving Him, will find that Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa) will treat him accordantly. Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa), the Most High, says:

فَاذْكُرُونِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ[البقرة: 152]

“So Remember Me, and I will remember you…… (Al-Baqarah 2:152)

“…..Fulfill the covenant with Me, and I shall fulfill your covenant…(Al-Baqarah 2:40)

Moreover, Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa) is the kindest of the kind. He rewards a good deed tenfold and more. Hadhrat Abu Hurairah is reported that the Prophet Hadhrat Muhammad (SallAllaho Alaihe WaSallam) quoted Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa) as saying:

‘I am just as My slave thinks I am, and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.’ (Bukhari)

Whatever a person is given, is actually given by Him. And nothing afflicts him that he dislikes except that it is as a result of his falling short in fulfilling the rights of his Lord. The fourth Pious Caliph and one of the great Sahaabah (Companions) of the Prophet Hadhrat Muhammad (SallAllaho Alaihe WaSallam), Hardhat ʿAli Bin Abi Taalib said: “The servant must place his hope in his Lord and his Lord alone, and he has nothing to fear save his sins.”

One of them said: “Whoever clarifies and purifies will be purified, and whoever mixes will be treated accordingly.”

Masrooq said: “Whoever diligently observes Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa) with respect to the notions and whims of his heart, Allah (Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aalaa) will safeguard the motions of his limbs for him.”
